Minety Art Club

Category: Clubs / Societies

Minety Art Club was formed in October 2006. We are simply a group of villagers from Minety and the surroundings area who like to paint and draw. We are a friendly group of mixed artistic talent and welcome new members of all abilities, including beginners and folk who just want to dabble while enjoying good company.

Anyone interested in joining us, whatever your artistic ability, please contact The Minety Art Club Chairman, David Brown on 01666 860 846.

We meet between 10:00 am and 12:00 every Tuesday in the Minety Village Hall. Membership is by annual subscription of £10:00. Additionally, to cover the cost of using the Hall, there is a weekly session fee or £1:00 per member, charged in advance for each 3 month period, (or a 1-time annual payment of £46, collected with the annual subscription).

During our Tuesday sessions we do our own work and give each other help and advice if wanted. All artist mediums are present in the group: watercolour, oils, acrylic, pastel, pen-and-wash, multi- media etc. and we are always ready to try something new.

We periodically pay professional artists to come and demonstrate particular techniques for us and to guide us. Attendance at these sessions is optional and requires a nominal per-person fee to cover tuition and materials.

We also organise for ourselves art-orientated outings, including trips to London galleries and art exhibitions. During July and August (weather permitting), we socialise as a group with the Tuesday sessions taking place in each others’ gardens or selected out-door locations, which usually includes a pub lunch. We have an annual summer BBQ, an “end of term” Christmas lunch and an annual Dinner, attended by members and spouses.

Our Annual Exhibition and Sale of Work in the Village hall has become something of a major event on the Minety social calendar. It gives us the opportunity to show off our efforts of the past year and hopefully make some sales to help fund our past-time.

We also have samples of our work for sale in the Vale of the White Horse pub and occasionally other venues too.
