Managing the Union Flag at the cenotaph

September 9, 2022 @ 08:00 - 17:00

Regarding the flag at the cenotaph
UPDATE:
Friday 8th September:
As the King was unable to return from Balmoral for his proclamation, all dates in the diary are delayed by one day. I will return the flag to half mast until tomorrow, when it will be flown at full mast again for the period of his proclamation.
Friday 8th September:
Yesterday, (Thursday 8th) in recognition of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and as chairman of the parish council, I lowered the flag at the cenotaph to half mast. This is in line with protocols defined in Operation London Bridge, which sets out plans for the passing of Queen Elizabeth.
Protocol dictates that at 11am on the day after the passing of the Monarch, the flag is returned to full mast for the proclamation of the ascension of the new Monarch to the throne. This was also done today by Parish Councillors.
The flag will fly at full mast until 1pm Saturday when it will fly at half mast until the day after Her Majesty’s funeral.
I understand it has been returned to half mast today. It is incorrect protocol to fly the flag at half mast at this time.
Please can I ask that residents do not alter the flag position in the cenotaph. We are following protocols defined by Her Majesty’s representative, the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire.
We will, and are, managing the flying of the flag in accordance with protocol.
Thank you.
